PURPOSE: A safety glass for flat cathode ray tube is provided to obtain optimum luminance and contrast for the flat CRT in an easy manner by easily controlling transmittivity, while maintaining explosion proof properties of the safety glass. CONSTITUTION: A safety glass comprises a glass(3) having a predetermined transmittivity, and a coating layer(30) coated at the front surface of the glass, and which is capable of adjusting transmittivity and has charge and reflecting function. The coating layer includes a titanium nitride layer(31) having light absorbing and conducting properties; and a silicon oxide layer(32) having an external light reflecting function by the index of refraction of the coating layer. The safety glass has a transmittivity of 70 to 90 percent, and is attached to the front of a panel(1) having a transmittivity of 78 percent, by a resin adhesive(10).
