PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for buying and holding a lottery through a wired telephone, a wireless telephone, and/or the Internet is provided to induce interest when holding the lottery and promote lottery sale by diversifying a method for holding the lottery when selling the lottery using conventional communication equipment. CONSTITUTION: If each buyer is connected to a lottery selling server for buying the lottery, a buyer confirming and selling state is recorded. A date and time in which each buyer buys the lottery is recorded. A condition for holding the lottery is determined. A lottery buyer for satisfying the determined condition is determined as a prizewinner. In case that the number of prizewinner is more than the number of predetermined prizewinner, random numbers are generated and last prizewinner is selected among the determined prize winners.
