PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel and a method thereof are provided to prevent an unnecessary power dissipation in a section where a real image data does not exist and to improve a contrast. CONSTITUTION: A signal processing part(21) outputs R/G/B image data to a sub field mapping part(22) through Gamma correction, gain control and error diffusion. Then the sub field mapping part allocates brightness level to each sub field to realize a brightness level according to the R/G/B image data from the signal processing part. And a data processing part(23) reconstructs the image E data from the sub field mapping part to be able to be realized on the plasma display panel. Then, a data existence judgement part(24) judges the existence of data per each sub field according to the output of the sub field mapping part and outputs the result of the judgement and the output of the sub field mapping part to an electrode driving waveform generation part(25). And the electrode driving waveform generation part generates an electrode driving waveform to drive a scan electrode, a common electrode and an address electrode and then outputs it to the corresponding electrode. |
