PURPOSE: Provided is a high refractive index optical silicone oil which shows a little change in its refractive index when volatilized and has a low volatility and a high refractive index and method for preparation thereof. CONSTITUTION: The high-refractive-index optical silicone oil comprises a cyclooligosiloxane having the formula 1. In the formula 1, Me is methyl, R1 is independently a C1 to C20 alkyl, alkenyl or aryl, and R2 is phenethyl or 2-methylphenethyl, X is an integer of 0 to 3, N is an integer of 4 to 10. The silicone oil has a refractive index of from 1.45 to 1.50 at 25.deg.C. The method for preparing the high-refractive-index optical silicone oil includes reacting the cyclooligosiloxane having the formula 1 with a compound selected from the group consisting of styrene and alpha-methylstyrene in the presence of hydrosilylation catalyst.
