PURPOSE: A potable data storing apparatus is provided to store mass storage data on the potable data storing apparatus and to increase the convenience thereof by compressing data of an information terminal to an image and by backing-up and storing it to a flash memory. CONSTITUTION: A potable data storing apparatus is comprised of an operating system function unit(11), an EPROM(Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)(12), a central processing unit(13), a flash memory unit(14), a transfer control unit(15), and a connector(16). The operating system function unit(11) entrains an operating system for compressing, backing-up, and storing data and controls every action such as an input/output management, an intercalation process, a memory allocation, a work time plan, a message exchange, and a communication function by working together with the central processing unit(13). The EPROM(12) stores software and driver information. The central processing unit(13) compresses the data to an image like a Norton ghost by working together with the operating system function unit(11) and the EPROM(12) and performs a back-up and storing operation of the compressed data. The flash memory unit(14) is composed of a plurality of flash memories and stores the data compressed to the image by the central processing unit(13). The transfer control unit(15) transmits/receives various data to/from an outer information terminal.
