A laminated cushion material is made by coating the unnapped side of a layer of moleskin with a settable adhesive, moving it adhesive side uppermost, unrolling a thicker layer of thermoplastic foam cushion material on to the coated moleskin layer as it moves along, using only the pressure of the weight of the foam layer to make it stick to the coated moleskin, so that the layers are secured together, both in untensioned condition. " Moleskin " is defined as any soft, pliable fabric having a thick nap thereon. A film of thermoplastic material may be bonded to the exposed surface of the foam layer, by a second adhesive layer, and a facing sheet having a release surface coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive pressed on to the exposed surface of the thermoplastic layer with sufficient pressure to make it stick to the laminate material firmly enough to enable the facing strip to be stripped from it. The foam material may be polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride foam. The first and second adhesives may be a synthetic rubber cement. The thermoplastic film material may be polyethylene terephthalate or cellulose acetate. The facing sheet may be double-faced silicone-treated parchment paper. |
