PURPOSE: A device for inspecting the freshness of foodstuffs in the refrigerator and the testing method are provided. The freshness is checked by the storage period of foods in the refrigerator. The cooker informs consumers about freshness of the foods when he takes the foods out for cooking. This way of the utilization of refrigerator is extended into functional use by a new conception. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises: input means(231) to input various kinds of food stuffs by their bar code sensor(224); setting means to set storage period of foods, inspection means to input the set period manually into the microcomputer(227) and to inspect the freshness of foods according to the storage period by microcomputer(227), and a buzzer(228) informing the user by sounding alarm when the set storage period of food is expired after the above inspection.
