An acid solution (13) is applied to the stained area (4) by frictional contact using an applicator body and then an electrical circuit is created between the workpiece (2, 3), body and solution inside it. A method for removing local stains or discolorations, especially welding deposits, from the surfaces of stainless steel workpieces, comprises depositing an acid solution from an application body over the stained area by friction contact, and creating an electrical circuit between the workpiece, application body and solution. An Independent claim is also included for the stain removal kit used in this method, where the workpiece and application body are connected in series to a voltage source (7), and the body has an applicator head.
