PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a feed additive having an active oxygen scavenging ability which is a catalyst species Z favorable for addition thereof to an antioxidant that is a hydrogen donor species Y or addition thereof alone to a feed. SOLUTION: This feed additive having the active oxygen scavenging ability is obtained by defining a test substance providing >=10 luminance caught with a CCD camera as a substance containing the Z when a 2 wt./vol.% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide [X] and a saturated aqueous solution [Y] of gallic acid are used as standard reagents and 1 mL each of both the standard reagents [X] and [Y] is added to a container containing 0.2 g of the test substance previously added thereto, the resultant container is directly placed in a darkroom completely cut off from light to scavenge the hydrogen peroxide and the weak emitted light generated therein is caught by the CCD camera and including the Z-containing substance as an active ingredient. The feed additive is added to provide a formula feed. Thereby, the oxygen scavenging and antioxidant properties can truly be realized and the active oxygen produced in cultured fishes or livestocks can be scavenged and connected with the prevention of the deterioration of feed. |
