PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal control blanket 28 that is for use with a spacecraft 10 or a spacecraft member to provide a thermal control coating. SOLUTION: The thermal blanket 28 includes a plastic substrate 22, on which a silicon film 24 is deposited via a vacuum deposition process. The silicon film 24 provides relatively high infrared light transmission and moderate absorption of a high-energy bandwidth in the solar spectrum to thereby allow the reflection of high-energy visible rays, and heat radiation by infrared radiation. The silicon film 24, in addition, is a hard and strong coating that provides resistance to humidity and other corrosive environments.
