PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter element capable of minimizing the number of lines of block holes, and simplifying and facilitating its processing and cleaning. SOLUTION: This monolith-like element 1 is made of a porous material having a plurality of penetrating holes 3 forming axial fluid paths defined by partition walls 2. In the element 1 at least one of lines of the adjacent penetrating holes 3 continuing in a straight line is selected, the line of block holes is made by locking both ends of the respective penetrating holes of the selected line, and slits 5 are formed in the direction vertical to the line of the block holes. Fluid is fed to the penetrating holes 3 with their ends opened, out of a plurality of penetrating holes 3, and is filtered by the partition walls 2 of the plurality of penetrating holes 3 fed with the fluid. The filtered fluid is discharged from the slits 5. In the filter element 1 having the above described structure the cross-sectional form in the direction of the line of the block holes of the slits 5 is formed in a circular-arc shape opened to the outside diameter part of the line of the block holes.
