PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel DF coater adapted so as to effectively inhibit an entrained air stream from being formed on the surface of a base paper. SOLUTION: The DF coater performs coating by allowing a coating film L to continuously flow down onto the upper surface of a belt-like base paper B running substantially horizontally between a pair of guide rollers 3 and 3. A suction mechanism for forcing the air on the side of the upper surface of the base paper B to permeate paper B and sucking up the air on the side of the lower surface is provided at the coating on position of the lower surface side of the base paper B. This constitution can effectively inhibit the entrained air stream from being formed on the surface of the base paper B and can therefore ensure stable high-quality coating.
