PURPOSE: A time- and event-controlled activation system for charging and discharging piezoelectric elements is provided to achieves arbitrarily low average currents during the charging and discharging of piezoelectric elements or piezoactuators. CONSTITUTION: One of the terminals of piezoelectric element(1) is permanently connected to ground, i.e., is connected to a first pole of a voltage source; the other terminal of piezoelectric element is connected to the second pole of the voltage source via a coil(2) and a parallel circuit made up of a charge switch(3) and a diode(4), and to the first pole of the voltage source via coil(2) and a parallel circuit made up of a discharge switch(5) and a diode(6).
