PURPOSE: To provide purified 2-p-dioxanone(2) without repurification of purified β-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid salts(1) being precursor and to provided a poly-p- dioxanone not containing a carboxyl group at molecular, having a high- molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution obtained by polymerization of purified 2-p-dioxanone. CONSTITUTION: £1| Purified β-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid salts having chemical formula(1) (n is 1-2; M is Na and/or Mg when n is 2 and M is Ca and/or Mg when n is 2) is characterized as a melt peak top temperature of 206.5deg.C measured by a differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). £2| Purified 2-p-dioxyanone having chemical formula(2) is obtained from purified β-hydroxyethoxyactic acid salts.
