PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive effect type head in which an exchange coupled magnetic field Hin imparted to a free magnetic layer is lowered. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistive effect type head is provided with a magnetoresistive effect film having a first anti-ferromagnetic layer 2, a fixed magnetic layer 3 formed on the anti-ferromagnetic layer 2 and having magnetization whose direction is fixed, a first non-magnetic layer 4 formed on the fixed magnetic layer 3, a free magnetic layer 5 formed on the first non-magnetic layer 4 and having magnetization whose direction is changed in accordance with an external magnetic field, a second non-magnetic layer 6 formed on the free magnetic layer 5 and a second anti-ferromagnetic layer 7 formed on the second non-magnetic layer 6 and imparting a bias magnetic field generated by a static exchange coupling and having a direction reverse to the magnetization direction of the fixed magnetic layer 3 to the free magnetic layer 5.
