PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer that reduces number of switching times of a video signal so as to reduce a radiation noise and current consumption and to provide its method. SOLUTION: The processing unit processing multi-value image data by each pixel is provided with a means that generates a flag signal that is inverted ON/OFF by each of the multi-value image data, a conversion means that converts the multi-value image data into density data on the basis of the multi- value image data and the flag signal, and a means that converts the obtained density data into a serial video signal. Furthermore, ON bits are set packed from a temporally earlier or later direction in a signal in bits representing generated density data according to a slag. Thus, number of switching circuits can be reduced.
