PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate flicker due to illuminating light in a liquid crystal display device, in which a reflection type liquid crystal panel is used. SOLUTION: When a liquid crystal drive frequency and the drive frequency of a lighting fixture 8 match or they are related by a non integral multiple, flicker (a waving phenomenon) is generated according to the difference between both frequencies. A power source frequency measuring circuit 5 detects the frequency of a general commercial power source 7. A liquid crystal drive frequency setting circuit 9B causes a liquid crystal driving circuit 2 to operate by setting the liquid crystal driving frequency synchronized with the frequency of the commercial power source. Then, since a liquid crystal display panel 1 is drive with the frame frequency which is synchronized with the illuminance frequency by the lighting fixture 8, flickers are prevented from being generated.
