The invention concerns an installation for making cable harnesses comprising at least an operator's workstation for making a cable harness. The station is equipped with a template (16) whereon are displayed a diagram (18) of the path for the harness cables and, at each end of the diagram, a mark (20) identifying said end. Said station comprises: means (35) for storing data representing the structure of at least a cable harness; means (48) for reading each of said identification marks, for identifying each of the ends of the harness; and means (42, 44) for providing the operator, in response to identification by the operator of one of the ends of the harness, cabling data concerning only the end identified by the operator.
