PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent destruction of a magnetoresistive effect type element by electric discharge due to excess voltage, excess currents or static electricity of a magnetoresistive magnetic head. SOLUTION: At least a magnetoresistive effect type magnetic head is formed on a conductive substrate. At least one pair of elements formed by combining two elements selected from the group consisting of a first magnetic shielding layer, a second magnetic shielding layer, a first leader conductor, a second leader conductor and the conductive substrate which constitute the magneto- resistive magnetic head via a protective circuit including an active element formed between the conductive substrate and the first magnetic shielding layer.
