PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument having a self-diagnosis function capable of instantaneously detecting a change when information stored in a storage area is changed to an unexpected value due to a trouble of software or hardware and a data processing method for the measuring instrument. SOLUTION: In the case of storing measured information obtained from a measuring part 1 in a storage device 3, an arithmetic unit 2 adds calculation information calculated in each measuring information to the measuring information and stores the information. In the case of extracting information stored in the storage device 3, the unit 2 judges the validity of the measuring information from the added calculation information.
