CONGESTION CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ATM SWITCH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a congestion control system for an ATM switch consisting of n (n>=1) sets of cell buffers, that ensures fair share between ABR(Available Bit Rate) connections passing through different buffers that are in the same ATM switch. SOLUTION: The ATM switch that contains an ABR service class and supports rate control which is the congestion control of the ABR service class to conduct delay priority control and abort priority control (QoS), is provided with an RM(resource management) arithmetic section that calculates entire congestion information of input cell buffer sections from a logical queue length of the input cell buffer sections and with output cell buffer sections each provided with a circuit calculating congestion information of the output cell buffer sections. The ATM switch is configured, such that the congestion information denoting the most congesting state among the congestion information in all the input cell buffer sections, the congestion information in the output cell buffer sections and the congestion information included in RM cells is set to backward RM cells.
