PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system that can select a ringing call reception even if number display device is connected. SOLUTION: A center 2 calls a microcomputer meter 9 and a network controller 8 detects ringing with a specific call pattern (steps 200-203). With respect to a final call from the center 2 (step 209), the network controller 8 conducts a call reception operation (hook-off) (step 211). The network controller 8 transmits a space carrier to the center 2 (step 213, transmits a incoming call reply signal (step 214), and awaits a metering request text from the center 2. After a lapse of time equivalent to expiration of a timer T03, the network controller 8 hooks on (step 215) and when the network controller 8 detects a ringing signal again (step 216) and conducts call reception (step 217).
