PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can ensure the processing capability at a low cost and to provide a photoprocess unit provided with the image reader. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a scanner 10 that employs line sensors 15R, 15G, 15B for each color in three primary colors of a light placed at a prescribed interval in a carrying direction so as to pick up a face of a film F while carrying the photographed film F with e.g. carrier roller pairs 11 driven by a motor, memories 211R1, 211R2, etc., provided by each color so as to store picked-up image data in each color, buffers 212R11, 212R12, etc., that switch write/read of the image data to/from each memory mutually between the memories in pair and a controller 213 that controls this switching timing.
