PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing a glass substrate having a chemically strengthened surface for a magnetic recording medium, which has the uniformly polished and smooth surface small in fault and extremely low in roughness. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the glass substrate having the chemically strengthened surface for the magnetic recording medium comprises polishing the surface of this glass substrate by using a polishing liquid and polishing cloth containing 1 wt.% or less CeO2-based abrasive having 0.5μm or smaller average particle size D50 at the finishing polishing step.
