PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the evaluating device for an external storage device capable of evaluating a disk whose data contents are not known, and evaluating that the input data can be corrected to which error rate, and specifying any defective part in a step until the data are transferred from a disk to a host computer. SOLUTION: In the evaluating device of an external storage device, a system controller 103 is provided with a second command issuing part 110a for controlling a disk controller 102a in response to a first command issued from a host computer 105a. The disk controller 102a is provided with an error information obtaining part 1009 for obtaining error information in response to an evaluation command issued from the host computer 105a, and for storing it in a readable/ writable storage device and a transmission command processing part 115 for transferring the error information to the host computer 105a.
