PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit that can reproduce an original image from color input image information of the original image in a preferable way with less calculation amount and to decrease occurrence of color level deformation even at a high saturation part so as to preferably reproduce the color. SOLUTION: The image processing unit is provided with an input arithmetic means 131 that obtains an input neutral color contrast amount and an input deviation contrast amount from color input image information, a neutral color contrast amount arithmetic means 132 that obtains an output neutral color contrast amount from the received neutral control contrast amount on the basis of the neutral color contrast amount conversion information, a deviation contrast amount arithmetic means 134 that obtains an output deviation contrast amount from the input deviation contrast amount according to Expressions below, and an output arithmetic means 136 that obtains color output image information from the output neutral color contrast amount and the output deviation contrast amount.ΔR'=frr(ΔR)+frg(ΔG)+frb(ΔB),ΔG'=fgr(ΔR)+fgg(ΔG)+fgb(ΔB), andΔB'=fbr(ΔR)+fgb(ΔG)+fbb(ΔB), whereΔR,ΔG,ΔB are the received deviation contrast amount,ΔR',ΔG',ΔB' are the output deviation contrast amount, fij() is conversion function and ij is r, g, b}.
