PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line card for support circuit switching and packet switching and supporting a fast multimedia application in the line card for interfacing two communication systems. SOLUTION: This line card interfaces an asynchronous communication and a synchronous communication, by using an ATM switch and a synchronous- asynchronous converter-time slot interchange (SAC-TSI), capable of performing route designation of TDM traffic to the ATM fabric of the ATM switch. The line card supports video, sound and data communication. The line card further supports an ATM, Ethernet(R) and a frame relay communication.
