PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice mail service realizing convenience equal to the use of a personal computer terminal and the convenience of a voice mail service supplier, which is to charge a call rate to a user side in the calling of a portable telephone set, by using the portable telephone set icorporating a Web browser function which is widely spread. SOLUTION: A message center is accessed in a data mode by using the portable telephone set provided with a sound mode and the data mode. The message center certifies a user by ID (telephone number) and a password, transmits list data of a voice mail addressed to the user to the portable telephone set and displays it. The user selects the voice mail to be reproduced and informs the message center of it. The portable telephone set calls in the sound mode, and gives generation number notice. The message center matches an operation performed in the data mode with an incoming call in the sound mode with the telephone number received at the data mode and the sound mode as a key, transmits the voice mail selected at the data mode and emits it from the portable telephone set.
