Aluminium alkoxides are produced by reacting aldehydes, ketones or acid chlorides with dialkoxy aluminium hydrides of formula Al(OR)2H, while in the presence of esters, nitriles, amides, organic nitrates, ethers, aryl halides or aromatic, olefinic and saturated hydrocarbons. The alcohols may then be obtained by hydrolysing the alkoxides, e.g. with dilute sulphuric acid. |
