An interface (1) to a voice mail system includes a message review area (2) from where messages are played to a subscriber and a settings area (3). The message review area (2) is immediately accessed when the subscriber enters the voice mail system. The settings area (3) is accessed from the message review area (2) when the subscriber enters a predetermined command (4). Settings features (5) are sequentially accessed from the setting area (3). Functions (6) directly avaiable from the message review area (2) are also provided.
