PURPOSE: A refrigerator is provided to reduce power consumption and improve reliability by allowing components of refrigerator to operate in a stand-by mode during non-use. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a refrigerator micro computer(11) for controlling operation of components of refrigerator; an LCD(14) for displaying images onto a screen in accordance with a predetermined image information transmitted from an external source; a touch panel(12) connected to the LCD, and which allows a user to input key signals related to refrigerator operation and stand-by mode set key signals with reference to the image displayed onto the LCD; a main control unit(15) for controlling the refrigerator micro computer so as to perform operation corresponding to the key signal input through the touch panel and Internet, providing image information to the LCD so as to display the image corresponding to the input key signal, controlling components except a stand-by mode control unit(22) and components related to freezing/refrigerating operation to operate in a stand-by mode by cutting off power supply in accordance with an interrupt signal output from an external source, and re-starting power supply to all components upon input of a predetermined key signal during stand-by mode; a communication equipment(13) for transmitting refrigerator operation related key signals input from a remote terminal through Internet, and the operation related information output from the main controller to the remote terminal; and the stand-by mode control unit for outputting interrupt signal to the main control unit, when stand-by mode set command is input from a user or when there exists no key signal input during a preset time period.
