METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING LATERAL DRAINS IN WELLBORES

A method and apparatus for inserting a working platform (19) into a wellbore, where the working platform is for subsequent use in creating an aperture in a casing of the wellbore, and/or for subsequent use in creating a borehole into the wellbore. The working platform is run into the wellbore and is provided with a sensor operable to indicate the depth and orientation of the sensor/working platform within the wellbore. The working platform is then set within the wellbore. A cutter is then run into the wellbore, and engaged with the working platform, and is operated to create an aperture in the casing (7). A drain former (133) is operated to form the required number of drains.
