A device and process is provided for treatment of a hydrocarbon or fossil fuel which is to be combusted in a combustion chamber to improve combustion of the fuel in the combustion chamber by turbulently treating the fuel with a plurality of fields of magnet flux and subjecting the fuel to a field of differing standard electrochemical reduction potentials. The device is adapted to be connected in-line in a fuel supply line of the combustion chamber and comprises: a non-magnetic, elongate hollow tubular housing (12) having a longitudinal axis (14), opposing inlet and outlet ends (16, 20), a generally centrally located inlet aperture (18) in said inlet end (16) for receiving fuel and a generally centrally located outlet aperture (22) in said outlet end (20) for dispensing treated fuel, and a plurality of elongated magnets (24a-24f) located in the housing (12) on opposing sides of the longitudinal axis (14) providing a series of differing or alternating fields of magnetic flux.
