PURPOSE: An Internet phone system and a call access method are provided so that a user connected to a generic PSTN and a user connected to the Internet can carry out their telephone conversation easily and conveniently. CONSTITUTION: An Internet phone system for the telephone conversation between a terminal connected to the Internet(100) and a telephone subscriber connected to a generic PSTN(200) comprises an Internet phone gateway(110), a gatekeeper(120), and a router(130). The gateway(110) to interface the PSTN(200) has a carrier-class switching function and supports an SS7(Signalling System No.7) protocol. Also the gateway(110) supports compact PCI hardware and an SNMP protocol management/remote management tool. The gatekeeper(120) is connected with a plurality of Internet phones(150) or PCs(160) through a LAN(Local Area Network)(140). The gatekeeper(120) executes a function to convert voice data into H.323 digital packet data.
