MOVEABLE BUMPER FOR A LOADING DOCK

A bumper assembly (12) for a loading dock (10) includes a bumper (14) that i s moveable between an operative position and a stored position. In the operati ve position, the bumper (14) extends well above the dock platform (10) to preve nt excessively high trucks, trailer beds, and cargo container from being parked over the top of the dock platform (10). In the stored position, the bumper (14) is positioned so as not to obstruct loading and unloading of cargo. In some cases, the bumper (14) is biased to the operative position to encourage operators to normally leave the bumper (14) in that position. In some embodiments, the bumper (14) is selectively moveable away from the vehicle o r container that the bumper (14) is blocking to facilitate subsequently moving the bumper (14) to its stored position.
