<p>An embodiment of the apparatus (10) comprises a hollow tubular body (18) (a) of a cross-section size (22) larger than the diameter of any single particle (12) but smaller than twice the diameter to accomodate passage of a single particle (12) at a time through the hollow tubular body (18) and (b) of a length to accommodate a predetermined number of particles (12). The apparatus (10) includes an obstruction (30) within the body (18) that permits passage of fluid (14) but prevents passage of a particle (12). The apparatus (10) also includes a force applicator (24) at one end of the tubular body (18) to apply a force to draw a flow of fluid (14) and particles (12) into an end of the element to fill the hollow tubular body (18) with particles (12) along a length of the body (18) up to the obstruction (30) and to maintain the force so as to retain the particles (12) within the body (18) while transporting the retained particles (12) to a location.</p> |
