A method of the preparation of curing agent according to the invention is characterised in that the poly(ethylene terephthalate) is subjected to the action of aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines in the reactor at temperature from 180 DEG C to 250 DEG C over the period from 2 to 4 hours, wherein the mole ratio of poly(ethylene terephthalate) repeating unit to the aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines amounts from 1:1 to 1:10. The curing agent for the epoxy compositions is characterised in that it comprises the degradation product of poly(ethylene terephthalate) by aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines, wherein the mole ratio of poly(ethylene terephthalate) repeating unit to the aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines amounts from 1:1 to 1:10. The epoxy composition is characterised in that the curing agent comprises the degradation product of poly(ethylene terephthalate) by the aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines, wherein the mole ratio of poly(ethylene terephthalate) repeating unit to the aliphatic amine, mixture of aliphatic amines and/or mixture of aliphatic and aromatic amines amounts from 1:1 to 1:10.
