The invention concerns a device for varying a ship's draught resulting in providing a pendular keel enhancing the moment of statical stability. The invention concerns a device consisting of two half-keels (1 and 2) bearing the ballast which can rise from sailing position (A) up to a the horizontal (B) by opening like the wings of a butterfly beneath the ship's hull via two belts (3) fixed thereto and two motorised pulleys (4) driven by an external force. The selective choice of causing the pulleys to be mobile jointly or separately, in one direction or the other, or even in the same direction provides the possibility of reducing the draught or further to move in the form of a pendular keel the ballast from one side to the other (C) beneath the ship. Opening and locking the half-keels in intermediate position (D) enables the ship to run aground or to be beached without requiring bracing means. The inventive device is particularly designed for keel type sailing ships so as to significantly reduce draught or enhance righting moment.
