A card-like object comprises a data-handling circuit and an interface via which the data-handling circuit may communicate with a terminal. The card-like object further comprises an indicator which, when the data-handling circuit communicates with a terminal via the interface, produces a phenomenon that a user of the card-like object can perceive.
