PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound functionalized at both terminals having an alicyclic structure or a heterocyclic structure in the main chain with high mechanical strength and high heat resistance, and to provide a manufacturing method which can obtain the compound functionalized at both the terminals. SOLUTION: The compound functionalized at both terminals having an alicyclic structure or a heterocyclic structure in the main chain can be obtained by hydrogenating a compound obtained by subjecting a polycyclic unsaturated compound to ring opening polymerization in the presence of a chain unsaturated compound having functional groups at both terminals.
