The sensor device has an optical sensor (1) with a raster of sensor elements for detecting light in the visible wavelength spectrum and a further set of sensor elements for detecting light in the IR wavelength spectrum, with at least one spotlight (3,4) used for illuminating the imaged object with IR light. A selection device (2) allows the visible light sensor elements, or the IR sensor elements to be used, with operation of the spotlights in synchronism with the selection of the sensor elements.
