The invention relates to a novel method for producing 2,3,4,6-tetramethylbenzyl halides, by reacting a mixture of 1,2,3,5-tetramethylbenzol (isodurol) and 1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzol (durol), said mixture having a maximum of 1.5 mol formaldehyde corresponding to 1 mol isodurol, with hydrohalic acid.
