NAVIGATION SYSTEM, METHOD FOR DISPLAYING STATE OF TRAFFIC JAM, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of appropriately displaying the state of traffic jams lying outside a displayed area. SOLUTION: A processing control part successively updates a jam list stored in a memory part according to VICS (registered trademark) information acquired from a VICS module. The control part produces an indicator image 70 as shown in Fig. (a) according to the updated jam list. The indicator image 70 is an image simply expressing the state of jams on a guidepath, in which the guidepath from a starting point (such as the place of departure) to an endpoint (such as the destination) is shown by a straight line (a rectangle) and the state of jams is expressed by a symbol 71 denoting a heavily congested area and by a symbol 72 denoting a crowded area. The control part produces a navigation image. The indicator image 70 is overlaid on the produced navigation image, which is displayed on a display part 9 as shown in Fig. (b).
