PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unintentional cancellation of a 'locked condition' of a rear door with respect to a vehicle body when the rear door closes a door opening to be in the 'locked condition' with respect to the vehicle body, if an impact is applied to the rear door from behind in the event of collision of the automobile. SOLUTION: There is provided a locking cancellation preventing mechanism for the rear door, which includes a locking means 8 for locking the rear door 4 to a lower opening edge of a door opening 3, and a linking mechanism 11 for moving in one direction C in synchronization with an operating handle 9, to thereby cancel the locked condition by the locking means 8. The mechanism is comprised of a fixed member 52 which is fixed to a lower end of the rear door 4 and arranged at a location longitudinally close to a portion 51 of the linking mechanism 11 as well as close as viewed from the side and from above. When the portion 51 of the linking mechanism 11 relatively approaches the fixed member 52 in the longitudinal direction according to deformation of the rear door 4, contact of the fixed member 52 with the portion 51 of the linking mechanism 11 is restricted.
