PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for realizing a polarized wavelength selective beam demultiplexer/multiplexer. SOLUTION: A wavelength grating router(WGR) having a double refraction grating waveguide is included in a wavelength selective polarizing beam device. When the device is used as a demultiplexer, a channel of wavelengths different in a WDM signal is separated and a polarizing component orthogonal with respect to each wavelength channel is also separated. Since the WGR device is provided with reciprocity, the WGR device is used as a multiplexer and orthogonal polarizing components of each wavelength channel are combined to form the WDM signal.
