PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber holding device and method that realize a high positional accuracy in the axial direction of an optical fiber and that facilitate the fixing and pressurizing operations for an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical fiber holding device is equipped with a core member 10 having a plate 11 with a groove 12 for accepting an optical fiber A, fiber holder members 21, 22, 23 arranged on the plate 11 of the core member 10, and a housing 30 for storing the core member 10 and the fiber holder members 21, 22, 23. Wedge members 41, 42, 43 are inserted between the housing 30 and the fiber holder members 21, 22, 23, in the direction orthogonally crossing the optical axis direction of the optical fiber A. As a result, the optical fiber A accepted in the fiber accepting groove 12 is fixed in a pressurized manner by the fiber holder members 21, 22, 23.
