PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cyclic ether containing an alkylidene substituent group at theα-position of oxygen atom in a high yield relatively in a wide range of substrates and reaction conditions by a simple purification without producing by-products. SOLUTION: A thiolactone compound of formula (I) is reacted with an active methylene compound of formula (II) in the presence of an aromatic carboxylic acid halide of formula (III) or an aromatic carboxylic acid anhydride R7 is an aryl group or a heteroaryl group; G is a halogen atom or a carbonyloxy group} to produce a cyclic ether containing an alkylidene substituent group at theα-position of oxygen atom of formula IV) (n is 1 or 2; R1 to R6 are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heteroaryl group or an alkoxy group; X and Y are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heteroaryl group, a cyano group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group or the like).
