PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prescribe the form, composition, size and number density of oxide nonmetallic inclusions for reducing defects caused by inclusions at the time of working in a slab for the stock for a can. SOLUTION: This slab for the stock for a can small in defects caused by inclusions has the components of, by mass, 0.01 to 0.1% C, 0.001 to 0.1% Si, 0.1 to 1.0% Mn, 0.01 to 0.03% P, 0.001 to 0.03% S and 0.01 to 0.1% Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and in which, among inclusions with a size of 105 to 210μm in the slab, the number of the ones in which the area of the maximum inscribed circle of a projected drawing in which the inclusions are projected on a plane reaches >=90% of the area of the projected drawing of the inclusion and also containing Al2O3 and CaO so as to control the total ratio to >30 mass % is 3 or less per kg of the slab.
