PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition which shows an excellent discharge stability and fastness to light and may form an image with little blur. SOLUTION: The ink composition for ink jet recording contains an azo pigment of formula I (wherein X is an electron-attractive group having a Hammett substituent constant a σ of >=0.20; R1-R6 and Y are each hydrogen, a halogen, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group or the like; Z1 and Z2 are each a group identical to R1-R6 and Y; and A is a non-metal atomic group required for forming a 5-8-membered ring, provided that at least one of R1-R6, X, Y, Z1, Z2 and A is an ionic hydrophilic group or a group having an ionic hydrophilic substituent) and has a static surface tension at 25 deg.C of from 20 to 50 mN/m. |
