PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve conventional problem in splicing causing defects or increasing loss, due to change in the quantity of heat imparted to optical fibers at each fusion splicing. SOLUTION: In the fusion splicing method and device in which the end faces 3 of two optical fibers 1, 2 are abutted on each other and fusion spliced by melting the abutted part 4 by the heat generated by a heat source 5, the quantity of heat generated by the heat source 5 is varied, on the basis of the positional relation of the optical fibers 1, 2 relative to the heat source 5, the quantity of heat for the optical fibers 1, 2 to receive from the heat source 5 is always kept content. |
